Living in your full power is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and the universe. How is your third chakra feeling these days, do you pay much attention to it? Personally it is the chakra that is often compromised for me and when it is I tend to get myself into situations that don’t serve me well. Additionally, when my third chakra is compromised so is my fifth chakra. These are just my personal observations; this in no way means this is specific to every individual. However, since the fifth chakra concerns your voice and expression, they do tend to go hand in hand. For now, I am going to only reflect on the third chakra, as that is what I am being called to bring awareness to in this present moment.
The third chakra or the Solar Plexus is located just above the naval and below the sternum. In Sanskrit it is known as Manipura. This is the will chakra. It defines the question “who am I”. In her book Wheel of Life Anodea Judith Life conveys “The first two chakras flow downward, subject to gravity and to forms already in existence. Fire, by contrast, flows upward, destroying form, and taking the raw energy to a new dimension” (168). This is where we start learning how to FLY. The purpose of our existence is stirred up in this chakra and we should use the chakra accordingly. That is why we reach to this place to answer our questions of identity. This chakra is filled with power and helps us move through this earth with meaning.
When your third chakra is in balance it manifests as having solid self-esteem, feelings of purpose, having healthy self-respect, being ambitious, and self-motivated. With a healthy solar plexus chakra we are full of energy, efficiency and spontaneity without being dominating. If this center is blocked for a longer period of time, we will start lacking self-esteem and natural self-love. We will not be able to properly focus our efforts in business and personal matters, we will find ourselves incapable of fulfilling our duties, not able to make the right choices and take proper actions.
To maintain balance in this chakra you can inhale an essential oil like Sandalwood, use crystals such as citrine or tiger’s eye, and if you have a yoga practice attention may be directed to your solar plexus by using Pranayama, Breath of Fire or Dhanurasana, Bow Pose. Since the third Chakra needs stimulating rather than cooling, you might try some Bikram Yoga as well. Open yourself up to your power, step into your full potential and develop a healthy sense of self-worth, grow as a leader, become more effective, successfully set and reach goals, and create the life that your soul longs for.
The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.
