Choose Balance

Don’t take anything personally.  Nothing others do is because of you.
What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. ~ Don Miguel Ruiz

Are you the victim of needless suffering?  Are you immune to the opinion and actions of others?  For me personally it is a balancing act.  I do find myself being pulled this way and that at times and need to remind myself to breathe and stay centered.  This all sounds relatively simple, just breathe and stay centered.  However, if you are like many others and me it is not always an easy practice.  We receive subtle and not so subtle messages in our daily lives from the moment we awaken to purchase certain commodities, to believe in certain politicians, to read and believe all our email, Facebook and more.  The list is endless!  We are always being put to the test.  Many of us have friends and perhaps families who also drain our souls, and yet we keep them in our lives.  The real issue here is not them, but as the quote says not to take things personally and to stay immune to the opinions and actions of others.

I could make a long list of things that have already distracted me today and had the potential to disrupt my day if I allowed for these other people’s negative energies to seep into my own reality.  I had an email form a male “friend”, who wishes our relationship were more, giving me his analysis of a recent blog posting I wrote, and how the people he ‘surmised’ I had written about were not good people.  Wow, that knocked me off my chair, momentarily.  The dog was barking out in the yard at something, I checked my Facebook and saw a rash of social postings about fracking and more and my head was just spinning!  I had to center myself, acknowledge all of the disruption, yes acknowledge it for you certainly cannot ignore them, and then breathe and go inside.  When I am finished writing I will go meditate to further this place of centeredness.

Finding your place and holding onto it no matter what happens in one’s life is key.  We will all encounter days where things seem to get out of control, people say things that disappoint us (have no expectations), but it is up to us to not take any of it personally.  We are all on our own journey and it is about finding our authentic voice and standing with that no matter what noise is in the background.  At this very moment, because I was able to ground and get through some of the negative stuff, and believe me there seems to be a rash of it lately, I am now able to sit here quietly, writing, listening to the pigeons cooing and just now I heard the train whistle off in the distance.   Nature is the perfect balm for me as it restores my soul.  Not everyone enjoys this type of balm, and therein is part of the lesson; we are each responsible for our own dream of reality.  What will yours be today?

It is good I was drawn to your wisdom this morning…and yes, it is so difficult to maintain a balance…WHY am I so reluctant???

it is much better to go with the flow. Let things happen, experience them, and then move on.
Don’t judge what’s right what’s wrong as things just are.
