Sometimes what seems like surrender isn’t surrender at all. It’s about what’s going on in our hearts. About seeing clearly the way life is and accepting it and being true to it, whatever the pain, because the pain of not being true to it is far, far greater.
Nicholas Evans
Are you able to surrender to your heart? Are you able to surrender it no matter what has happened to you, regardless of the trauma? We will all experience moments of being a victim, but how we choose to live after that experience is up to us! We are our own creators of this life experience. We become a victim of our choice when we identify with a moment of trauma, instead of choosing to grow past it.
After experiencing any type of trauma, it is totally normal to go into a state of numbness, to shut down. But once the event happens, because we are co-creators of our life, the state we stay in is up to us and it’s up to us if we choose to stay trapped in a victim identity or to choose an empowered story and become stronger.
The goal is not to avoid pain or to deny what happened to us; the goal is to learn that we have the power within us to change and grow from the events. This begins by not allowing an event define us. We need to do the work to heal and then learn to live with an open heart once again, to surrender our heart. I am not going to tell you this is easy, it is not, it is hard work.
To not do the work is to deny yourself the gifts you have been sent here to express. We are infinite children of the universe and we have been sent here with a specific gift that is only ours to express. When we experience a trauma, these events can be used to help us step into who we are supposed to be. You are not broken. You do not need to be fixed. You are eternal and a part of the whole that supports you if you just learn to lean into it and ask, to surrender your heart completely. Please don’t stay stuck in a moment and let your whole life be defined by one event. You are so much more! Be true to your self, love yourself, and surrender your heart.

Oh Barbara, I was too, and worse feeling rather sorry for myself! With the beauty of the universe, this came to me this morning and my entire focus has thankfully shifted. It is a practice.
